Why the Process Is Different in Every State

Medical marijuana programs are created and regulated at the state level. Before you apply, it helps to know where states commonly differ.

Qualifying Conditions

Some states publish a fixed list of qualifying conditions. Others allow a practitioner to decide whether medical cannabis may be appropriate for your condition.

Registration and State Fees

Many states require a separate patient registration or card application, sometimes with a government fee that is paid directly to the state.

Renewal Periods

Certifications and registrations expire on different schedules. Your state page explains when and how renewal works where you live.
